Role Type and Work Arrangement

Work Arrangement: Remote, US-based
Location: Candidates may be located anywhere in the United States, subject to being legally authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship.
This role may require approximately 40% domestic travel for client meetings, expert meetings, source code reviews, depositions/trials, and conferences.
Responsibilities
Contribute as an individual contributor on client projects involving cybersecurity, network security, and secure systems architectures.
Deliver patent analysis and IP monetization research related to cybersecurity technologies, including technology due diligence, claim charting/infringement analysis, prior art searching, market research, and target scouting.
Analyze, reverse engineer, and test implementations of security protocols, secure network stacks, and application‑level security controls (e.g., TLS, VPNs, IAM/access control mechanisms, endpoint security agents) using industry‑standard tools and/or custom‑built tools.
Design and execute security test plans and experiments to evaluate vulnerability exposure, exploitability, threat detection and response behavior, and standards/compliance adherence (e.g., NIST, ISO 27001, PCI‑DSS).
Review specifications, reference implementations, and technical standards for cybersecurity and networking (e.g., encryption and key management standards, authentication/authorization protocols, secure transport and tunneling protocols) and map technical details to patent claims and accused products.
Support Expert Witnesses and attorneys on IP litigation matters, including technical analysis for reports, source code review, and preparation for depositions, hearings, and trials.
Collaborate with project leads and senior consultants to prepare client deliverables and presentations that clearly explain complex cybersecurity topics.
Assist in maintaining relationships with existing and prospective clients by supporting technical discussions, demos, and workshops.
Collaborate with Lumenci’s product teams to provide input on requirements, testing, and roadmap for technology platforms related to security analysis, reverse engineering, and IP analytics.
Contribute to thought leadership in cybersecurity and IP (e.g., blogs, whitepapers, research summaries, internal training).
Collaborate across the organization with in‑person and distributed global teams; attend internal and external meetings, workshops, conferences, source code reviews, depositions, and trials as needed.
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Cybersecurity, or a closely related field.
2–4 years of hands‑on experience working with cybersecurity or security‑focused systems in an R&D, engineering, security operations, or consulting role (e.g., secure network design, application security, cloud security, endpoint security), including implementing, integrating, or optimizing security controls.
Strong understanding of core cybersecurity fundamentals (e.g., threat modeling, vulnerability assessment, intrusion detection and prevention, encryption and key management, authentication and authorization).
Experience working with security standards, protocols, or reference implementations for one or more domains (such as TLS, IPSec, OAuth/OIDC, SAML, Zero Trust architectures, or major cloud provider security reference architectures).
Demonstrated proficiency in one or more relevant programming/scripting languages (e.g., C/C++, Python, Go, Bash, PowerShell) for building tools, automating tests, or analyzing security behavior and logs.
Ability to clearly explain complex technical topics in writing and verbally to both technical and non‑technical audiences.
Strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a consulting environment.
Approximately 40% domestic travel (for client meetings, expert meetings, source code reviews, depositions/trials, conferences).

Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting IP litigation, licensing, standards‑essential patent work, or patent monetization related to cybersecurity, network security, or secure software/systems.
Familiarity with common tools and workflows for security assessment, penetration testing, and debugging (e.g., Burp Suite, Metasploit, Wireshark, nmap, security scanning, and SIEM platforms).
Exposure to standardization activities, industry groups, or patent pools related to cybersecurity, networking, or security protocols.
Experience with cloud security architectures, identity and access management, and secure deployment of applications and services (e.g., AWS/Azure/GCP security controls, container and Kubernetes security, SSO and MFA integrations).

Compensation & Pay Transparency
The expected total annual compensation range for this role is $80,000–$120,000 USD, which may include base compensation and other eligible incentive components.
Actual compensation will depend on skills, experience, and work location. For candidates in jurisdictions that require pay range disclosures, Lumenci will provide a good‑faith compensation range for the candidate’s location as part of the job posting or during the interview process, consistent with applicable law.
